Originally from Berlin but based in Taranaki, New Zealand for the love of the ocean and surf, I call both places home. Working in traditional goldsmith studios in different parts of the world is shaping my understanding of techniques and use of tools. As a jewellery designer, I am creating jewellery from scratch for one-off designs or companies, starting with a pen and paper, a piece of metal or a 3D design. Creating unique jewellery designs together with my clients, often including their gems and metals. The involvement with the arts here in New Zealand like the Taranaki Arts Trail and teaching traditional methods of goldsmithing has seen me share my workshop with the public. My jewellery can be found at Ringcraft Moana Jewellers in Oakura where I work 5 days a week. But even if you are just in the region you should visit our small village for a surf, safe swim and great panorama views of mount Taranaki. Running jewellery workshops for individuals and groups who would love to dive into the art of goldsmithing has been a fun journey. From art students, first timer and jewellery hobbyists the classes can be tailored. Contact me and we can discuss your options, or design ideas I can help you with, I would love to hear from you.

Berlin Bauhaus Exhibition

Award-winning Bauhaus inspired collection by

Belinda Lubkoll

Berlin-New Zealand

Press release in English and Deutsch

Certified Jeweller Belinda Lubkoll will exhibit her collection “Bauhaus inspired” in Berlin this September.  From 2nd to the 13th of September at Claudia Baetge’ s Goldsmith studio and gallery in Woerther Strasse 17 Berlin Prenzlauer Berg.

The opening exhibition is on the 2nd of September at 6pm to 10pm

Originally from Berlin, Belinda moved to New Zealand 13 years ago. Arriving just with a backpack as a holiday maker, her story started when she set foot into a local goldsmith studio. 13 years on, she is still working for the same master jeweller and has been designing her own collections and one-off designs for her clients as a qualified jeweller. Architecture has always been an inspiration for her. Wandering through vast range of historic buildings paired with new and modern designs has left an impression as an artist.  Her jewellery works with the concept that a straight line needs a curve to be balanced out. Choosing a non-commercial stone setting, something that is not predicted but has a clean line. The minimalistic Bauhaus movement is clearly reflected in her work. Vibrant primary colours of her gemstones used like Swiss blue topaz, sun yellow citrine and blood red garnet. Some of her one-off pieces include a large tourmaline split ring design and hand soldered raster of rings with elements of copper, gold and gems.

For the first time New Zealand was allowed to enter in the category 1 &2nd year apprentice/ student awards at the Sydney international design awards in August 2019.

Belinda did not just enter for the first time but while visiting her hometown Berlin and working alongside Claudia Baetge.

She became finalist with her Bauhaus inspired ring design in sterling silver. A flowing ring band holding a square topaz that is slightly offset.

Now she has been invited back to the same goldsmith studio and to display her since then growing collection of Bauhaus inspired designs.
Claudia a well-known master jeweller, who has taken part in international competitions successfully herself will display Belinda’s work alongside her collections inspired by her own travels.

Bauhaus Ausstellung Belinda Lubkoll in Berlin

Homework Exhibition New Plymouth

“Storyteller” Homework exhibition Taranaki, New Zealand

A yearly art exhibition held at Puke Ariki in New Plymouth, showcasing local artists.
Translation of the topic traditions handed down.

“Storyteller”
Bedtime stories thousands of years old and passed down from generation to generation was my idea for this exhibition.
Growing up in Germany, the brother Grimm where a big part of our childhood.

I designed a sterling silver hinged book with a flush set 0.01ct white diamond made it into the exhibition 2020.

Drawn down silver plate to create a hollow tube to be soldered against two silver plates. Lined up and riveted with a silver wire to create a hinge. The textured surface is reflecting the light and the tiny diamond in the corner is adding an extra sparkle.

2019 Finalist at the Jewellery Design Awards in Australia

Bauhaus inspired ring design

I entered my first jewellery competition last year. As a student in my final year to become a manufacturing jeweller it was exciting to be measured against other jewellers from all around the world.

The idea behind my ring design came from the square topaz that I was working on at the time. I am attracted to architecture and working with contrasts in shapes and textures. An open shank ring band holding my rub- set square topaz, the setting is just slightly off centre, just enough to be a bit annoying.

That year was also the 100 year celebration of Bauhaus in Germany. An art movement and school that has combined art with every day living and mass production. Growing up during the GDR and close to Berlin, this type of architecture and art scene has influenced me since I was a little child.
