Bauhaus inspired ring design
I entered my first jewellery competition last year. As a student in my final year to become a manufacturing jeweller it was exciting to be measured against other jewellers from all around the world.
The idea behind my ring design came from the square topaz that I was working on at the time. I am attracted to architecture and working with contrasts in shapes and textures. An open shank ring band holding my rub- set square topaz, the setting is just slightly off centre, just enough to be a bit annoying.
That year was also the 100 year celebration of Bauhaus in Germany. An art movement and school that has combined art with every day living and mass production. Growing up during the GDR and close to Berlin, this type of architecture and art scene has influenced me since I was a little child.
